Chattanooga is an aesthetically pleasing city, no matter what time of year. However, beginning a little before Thanksgiving, through Christmas and into the New Year, the “Scenic City” transforms into a bustling holiday town. There are also an abundance of holiday activities college students will enjoy in and around the city. The following are just a few of the most notable holiday activities in Chattanooga.
Chattanooga is rich in cultural experiences, especially during this time of year. The Tivoli Theater is hosting the Chattanooga Boys Choir , the Chattanooga Symphony and the Nutcracker throughout December. The Chattanooga Theater is also showing the “Miracle on 34th Street” play. If you enjoy the Chattanooga Market, you will love the special Chattanooga Holiday Market. Everything is holiday themed and over 200 vendors showcase an assortment of goods, foods, and décor. This will be taking place at the Chattanooga Convention Center. The Mainx24 24-hour holiday festival is another great activity to try out. The schedule for the day is jam-packed and includes music, fashion shows, green living and parades among others.
As the name would suggest, touring Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights is simply an enchanting experience. There are over 30 holiday scenes and hundreds of thousands of LED lights. The park, which is loved by all during the day, transforms in a magical walk through light display at night throughout the holidays. If you have never seen this display in person, you are missing out, as this award-winning assortment of lights, music and Christmas décor is well worth the trip up the mountain.
You can enjoy a nice lunch or dinner while cruising down the Tennessee River on the beautiful Southern Belle. Each cruise features different options. Many have live entertainment or dancing. The featured menu consists of items like smoked ham, roasted turkey breast, prime rib, cornbread dressing, desserts and much more.
Being in the south, experiencing snow on a regular basis just doesn’t happen in Chattanooga. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the fun elements of a snowy environment like ice skating. Chattanooga Choo Choo Gardens is opening their temporary outdoor ice rink for all to enjoy. This is a great place to take a date or just to enjoy a fun evening/day out.
